Bryan Pata Slain …

Bryan Pata, a senior Miami Hurricane defensive lineman, was shot dead Tuesday (8th) outside of his apartment, in a Miami suburb just 4 miles from campus.

Now we ripped the ‘canes here in this blog just last month for their violent conduct in that onfield brawl with Florida International but this is a tragic loss of life and we offer our commiserations to the family, friends and associates of Bryan Pata.

Pata, 22, was majoring in Criminology, and according to team spokesmen was a leader on this team: “He was cool, he was calm”.

Miami-Dade Police Department are investigating the homicide but have yet to identify the motive for the shooting.

According to police spokesman Roy Rutland police were called at 7:30 p.m. to the scene and found Pata’s body. Miami-Dade police did not say who made the 911 call after the shooting.

Shockingly, Police were unable to rule out the possibility that the shooting was related to that ‘U’-Florida International brawl, admitting that they will be studying footage of the bench-clearing fight to identify what if any role Pata may have played in it.

Whilst that is just one line of inquiry being followed and thankfully it remains a very remote possibility … it is a very chilling one.

‘U’ coach, Larry Coker, was reportedly stunned by the latest tragic blow to hit the programme and the university have yet to decide whether this weekend’s scheduled game against Maryland will go ahead.

“Right now, we’re just gathering ourselves and just trying to pull ourselves together,” athletic director Paul Dee told the AP.
