Cory Lidle, Yankee pitcher, died yesterday alongside his flight-instructor as their 4-seater aeroplane dipped and crashed into the upper floors of a Manhattan Upper East Side condominium.
Lidle was flying the plane he loved back home to the family he loved. We mourn with them that he never made it.
Our memories of Cory? An interview with ESPN’s Erik Koselius on Sportsbash after his deadline day trade from the Phillies to the Yankees. It’s rare to hear, in the raw, a guy so candidly delighted with his life … and especially his joy at joining the iconic Yankee club.
That joy came across so vividly it made me smile along with him. We should all hope fore such an epitaph.
May your God be with you.
