2006-1009: The GBU Report
GBU #4
The Good:
The Empire Strikes Out: The Yankee nation was in shock Saturday as their gazillion dollar line-up continued to swish aimlessly against solid Tiger pitching, before finally slumping out of the ALDS.
Tigers’ pitcher, Jeremy Bonderman, was impeccable through five hitless innings and left the game after 8 and a third innings (8k, 5h, 3r) to a standing ovation from the triumphant Tiger crowd.
A-rod continued to not hit going 0.091 in the series but this was not his failing alone … Giambi Sheffield and Matsui all struggled in similar fashion.
For Yankees its time to hit the panic button after a third straight playoff bust … There are sure to be plenty of high profile departures in the off season.
But for non-Yankees everywhere … It was party time!
The Bad:
The Phantom Menace: When the Yankees are hurting they aren’t shy in sharing it out. So enjoy their discomfort at the ALDS blow-out whilst you can.
Why?
Because you know those damn Yankees are going to come calling, are going to replace this ageing crop of expensive underachieving free agents with … yup … another bigger better crop of expensive (under) achieving freeagents.
And what does that mean to the rest of us?
Well, that guy you’re cheering for this time around, he’s coming back at ya’ in pin stripes! Give em one last cheer guys … You’re gonna spend a long time booing em: Zito and Willis any pitcher worth a damn is going to be a magnet for the Steinbrenner dollar.
‘Cos we all know how a good pitcher will always beat a good hitter – y’all do know that, right?
The Ugly:
Yoda Man: At least ya used to be da man. A-Rod’s bat’s no-show in yet another playoff meltdown is ‘the Ugly’ this week. For such a great looking, sweet talking guy, Alex’s stay in the Big Apple is turning uglier than the grimmest old crone in the darkest fairytale.
Time to hook up with a good realtor, Alex.
